I believe in the resilience of people and the human capacity to overcome even the most difficult of circumstances. We each have the ability to tap in to our own inner power to heal, and therapy can offer an ideal environment for transformation to happen. The client, however, will always be the most powerful instrument for change.

Providing therapy is not about fixing problems or giving advice, it's about walking with people in their journey and bearing witness to their deepest truth. Providing a securely attached relationship, the therapeutic bond offers a healthy template for future relationships and can transform how I see myself, how I see others, and how I see the world.

Connection is powerful, healing, and necessary for humans to live and thrive in this world. It's why, I believe, therapy works. It's not magic, but it can be a miracle force that allows space for "I matter," "I'm heard," "I'm worthy," "I'm enough," "I'm not alone," and "I belong" to grow. Through connection, I may feel the depths of my feelings, acknowledge my core beliefs, and be my most authentic self. Only in a vulnerable place may I experience myself and risk making the changes that can transform my life. I am humbled and honored each moment I'm able to enter the sacred space of therapy and collaborate in the healing process with my clients. It's breathtaking, awe-inspiring, sometimes nasty, occasionally humorous, and always worth it.

LICENSE, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#201540), Licensed Professional Counselor (#70895), and EMDR-trained therapist that has treated clients with mental health issues for 14 years. My education includes a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin and a Master's degree and Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary's University in San Antonio. I have provided individual, couple, and family therapy in mental health hospitals, agencies, and school settings for individuals, couples, and families and have experience in university teaching and research. I started in private practice in 2013 and have been honored to build a talented staff of professionals to treat the growing mental health needs of our community.

I am the owner and clinical director of The Resilience Center of Houston and am delighted to be a wife and the mother of two teenagers.

What will my first therapy session be like?

After looking over your paperwork and informing you about confidentiality, you and your counselor will discuss your concerns, symptoms, personal history, and treatment goals. Your counselor will decide if they are the best clinician to meet your needs, and you will decide if your counselor is a comfortable fit.
