Greater Houston Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a type of psychotherapy in which a trained professional assesses, diagnoses (if applicable), and treats mental, emotional, and behavioral problems for an individual person. Therapy sessions allow clients to confidentially talk through problems with a skilled expert involving issues that may be hard to face alone.

When choosing a therapist, it’s important to find the right match. Objective and nonjudgmental, the therapist provides a supportive environment for the client to talk openly. The client’s comfort and connection with the therapist have been shown in research to best predict positive therapy outcomes, and should, therefore, be the most crucial factor in choosing a therapist.

Individual therapy may be short-term, focusing on current symptoms and relief, or long-term, exploring more complex, persistent problems. The number of sessions and the frequency of appointments will vary based on the individual’s treatment issue(s), the severity and duration of the issue(s), the therapist’s treatment approach, and the client’s progress in treatment.

Therapy may include the below tasks.

1.     Self-exploration and insight

2.     Assessing and naming emotions

3.     Self-compassion and self-acceptance

4.     A better understanding of the development, role, and consequences of problems

5.     Developing coping skills

6.     Enriching the support network

7.     Facilitating lifestyle changes

It could be time to seek therapy if an issue causes significant distress or interferes with your functioning in daily life. The Resilience Center of Houston has five locations with compassionate therapists ready to help you face your problems and achieve your goals.
