Child and Teen Counseling
Despite your trials and tribulations, you deservice more out of life. Going through difficult times in life is inevitable, but we can learn how to handle the hard times better. I have seen the resilience of people and have made it my mission to help clients reconnect to themselves and get to a better place than where they started.Â
Â
I want you to feel heard and seen in therapy, so we will work to build a strong therapeutic relationship based on mutual respect and goals. Our sessions will often be structured and follow an agenda but within a relaxed atmosphere where you feel comfortable to speak freely. I will ask questions and give feedback, and we will come up with practical solutions to address your presenting problems. To best understand your needs and meet you where you are, I may conduct assessments during the first few meetings to determine your baseline. These evaluations will help us to develop your treatment plan and track your progress toward goals over time. I often encourage teen and adult clients to take notes regarding what they learned in session, would like to review between sessions, progress they have made, and desired tasks for future sessions. I have found that the clients most willing to put work into therapy are the clients most likely to see change take shape in their lives.

LICENSE, EDUCATION, and EXPERIENCE
Â
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (#69411) in Texas and received my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Prairie View A&M University (known for Producing Productive People). I then earned a Master’s in Human Sciences with a focus in Sociology and Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio and a Master’s in Social Work from Simmons University in Boston.
Â
I have over 12 years of experience in direct public service working with diverse populations, including children, young adults, elderly adults, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My career began at Texana Center as an Early Intervention Specialist, where I assessed developmental milestones and created individualized intervention plans for children ages birth to three years old. I later provided therapy for individuals with co-occurring disorders at Serenity Light Recovery and, at UTHealth, offered evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for substance abuse and mental health disorders to individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. No matter what difficulties someone has faced, every person carries within them the ability to heal, grow, and find meaning. Healing starts when people feel seen and accepted, so I strive to listen without judgment and create a safe and collaborative space where you can show up as your most authentic self. I see counseling as a collaborative process: you bring your lived experiences, values, and hopes for the future, and I bring evidence-based strategies, deep compassion, and help you discover new ways of responding to life’s challenges.
Â
It's hard to see your child suffering and feel powerless to help. Your child may struggle with anxiety, behavior, self-esteem, academics, or fitting in with peers. Maybe your child is recovering from a trauma, parental divorce, or death in the family. We have trained professionals here to help.
Types of Counseling

What will my first therapy session be like?
After looking over your paperwork and informing you about confidentiality, you and your counselor will discuss your concerns, symptoms, personal history, and treatment goals. Your counselor will decide if they are the best clinician to meet your needs, and you will decide if your counselor is a comfortable fit.
